Fans are eagerly anticipating the Britney Spears tribute at Sunday's Video Music Awards — and you can count Sabi among those die-hards.

Spears' Femme Fatale Tour opening act and "(Drop Dead) Beautiful" collaborator said it's definitely fitting that Spears will be feted at the awards show.

"I think it's awesome," the singer/songwriter told MTV News. "I personally have been able to watch firsthand how she's worked her butt off. She's been in the game for a minute. She's an icon. It's well overdue."

Go behind the scenes as Britney films her 2011 VMA promo.

So what Spears songs would Sabi like to see in the tribute? Her picks: "I'm Slave 4 U," "Toxic" and Brit's breakout hit, " ... Baby One More Time." "She has so many catchy, great records," she added.

As for Spears herself, she told MTV News that her favorite VMA memory was that infamous lip-lock with Madonna back in 2003. "My greatest experience — probably being with Madonna," she told MTV News. "The kiss was amazing. ... Being onstage with someone of that caliber is just iconic." Spears is up for two Moonmen at the 2011 VMAs, including Best Pop Video and Best Choreography.

Sabi will get her first taste of the VMAs when she performs the dance hit "You Make Me Feel ... " with Cobra Starship during the VMA Pre-Show.

"I always say this: Like, someone needs to pinch me," Sabi said of performing as part of the show. "Just know that the guys and the one girl, we've all performed a bunch of times with each other and just know that this is going to be different than anything I've ever done."

The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards will air live Sunday, August 28, from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles at 9 p.m. ET/PT, following the Selena Gomez-hosted pre-show at 8. See the list of nominees, revisit last year's highlights and vote for Best New Artist by visiting VMA.MTV.com.

Forrest Griffin Has 'Whole New Set of Reasons' for Fighting, but Is It Enough?

Filed under:

RIO DE JANEIRO -- Forrest Griffin isn't crazy about being in Brazil for UFC 134 this week, and he doesn't see the point in pretending he is.

"It'd be a great place to come on vacation," the former UFC light heavyweight champion explained on Wednesday. "Not a great place to work."

Why? Take your pick of reasons. Griffin has plenty.

"I can't read the labels on the food. I don't know what's going on. I can't get anybody to cook my sweet potatoes. The scale tells me weird numbers, I don't know what the f--k they are. I've got to do math every time I get on the scale. You guys don't have distilled water. ...Do you want me to keep bitchin'? Because I will."

And yet, despite all the complaining and the utter lack of enthusiasm, there he was at Wednesday's open workouts on the famed Copacabana beach, briefly doing something that sort of resembled a workout. Almost. Well, not really.

He got on the mats, at least. He stretched out, heaving his long limbs around in slow, tortured circles like a father getting ready to play a reluctant game of catch with his son after work, driven entirely by a vague sense of duty. Only for Griffin, the game of catch never came. He stretched, he contorted, he threw a punch or two at the air. He worked his way along the edge of the mat, smiling and waving just enough to please the crowd, then he made his exit.

Maybe he's saving the rest for Mauricio "Shogun" Rua on Saturday night.

When the UFC first told him it wanted him to book the rematch for UFC 134 in Brazil, Griffin's thoughts on the matter were pretty simple.

"Oh God, please no," he said.

Gradually, he moved through the stages of grief, he explained, arriving finally at acceptance. As in: "When I got off the plane, I accepted I was in Brazil," he said.

The first time Griffin and Rua met was at UFC 76 in 2007. That one took place in Anaheim, and Griffin probably wasn't eager to make even that short trip. If he had it his way, he might only travel from his home to the gym and back. Lately, even that little excursion doesn't sound as if it's quite so fun for Griffin, who admitted that he doesn't have the same kind of fire for the sport that he had several years ago.

"It's different," he said. "Life changes, you know? I do this for a whole new set of reasons now."

Reasons like money. The same reason most people get up and go to work every day. The difference is that, unlike most people, Griffin has to bleed for his cash. And so he does.

"My parents [have] got to retire. My wife's parents [have] got to retire. My little brother wants to go to college. I've got a daughter coming. She's probably going to want to go to college, and she's probably not going to be a genius, either. I've got to make some money, got to win. Winning pays a lot more than losing."

But going up against an opponent who's fighting to not only even the score, but also to revitalize his career after getting dominated by Jon Jones in his first attempt at a UFC light heavyweight title defense, you've got to wonder whether the paper chase alone will be enough motivation for Griffin.

Rua's fighting in front of his countrymen, and he's fighting a guy who made him look bad in the later rounds of their first fight. The difference this time, Rua said at Wednesday's open workouts, is that he "trained for four months for this fight. The first time I [fought] with Forrest, I [didn't] train hard, but now I'm ready."

The good news for Griffin is, that's more or less exactly what he's expecting out of Rua.

"I know one thing: when people beat me up I want to fight them again. You train hard and you take it real serious when someone beats you. I had that fear in the back of my head for the last nine weeks, so I did the best I could. I knew he was going to come out hungry and ready. I'm kind of expecting him to just close the distance and come at it and get going."

And at that point, with Rua in classic "Shogun" attack mode and an arena full of rabid Brazilian fans screaming in his ear, will a love of money and a sense of self-preservation be enough to pull Griffin through?

Maybe it depends how much he loves money. Or how much he fears being without it.

"I don't want to play it up or whatever," Griffin said, "but I was poor once and I'll never be poor again."

It might not be what we're used to hearing from pro fighters, but at least it's sincere.

Get ready to be scared!

In the upcoming horror film Don't Be Afraid of the Dark (in theaters Aug. 26), Katie Holmes plays a woman who's struggling to bond with her new boyfriend's daughter. When the little girl starts seeing terrifying creatures in their home, the adults don't believe her -- until it's too late.

iVillage got its hands on an exclusive clip from the movie. In the video, Holmes, 32, explains that being a mom (to 5-year-old Suri Cruise) helped her relate to her character. "Anytime your child is in the other room and you hear a noise, your heart’s out of your chest and your adrenaline kicks in," she says.

Ke$ha Touched By Fan's Tattoo

Ke$ha knows all about the perks of being a headliner. On her Get $leazy Tour, the singer gets to call all the shots, blast her fans in the face with tons of glitter and handpick which dudes she wants to party and share the stage with.

But it's not all backstage shenanigans and groupie love. When MTV News sat down with the "Blow" singer in New York earlier this week before her gig at Roseland Ballroom, Ke$ha said that amid the nightly onstage parties there have also been some poignant moments on her first headlining outing.

"Best moment? There are so many. Every night's amazing. I have kids outside right now chanting my name and it's awesome," she said of the first leg of the tour. "There was one night a fan came onstage, I invited him onstage, and he had a tattoo of the dollar sign. I was like, 'Oh, that's awesome! Badass. You're part of the cult, man.' "

And then, she said, he began to cry and explained that he was able to come out of the closet to his friends and family thanks to her song "Animal."

"And I'm standing onstage about to sing a song about growing back a pair of testicles ["Grow a Pear"] and I had tears rolling down my face and chills all over my body," she said. "Because that's really the reason I do music, to inspire people to be themselves."

Ke$ha has been a vocal supporter of the "It Gets Better" video project, which aims to help gay, bisexual and transgender youth find hope in the face of teasing and bullying.

The "Get $leazy" juggernaut continues on Saturday night with a show at Clarion University in Clarion, Pennsylvania.

Chael Sonnen cancels trip to Brazil to corner Yushin Okami at UFC 134 due to pressure from sponsor

By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

SonnenChael_150_29.png
UFC middleweight Chael Sonnen was planning on being in Yushin Okami's corner this weekend at UFC 134 for Okami's fight with Anderson Silva, but he won't be making the trip after pressure from one of Okami's fight sponsors.

According to a report from MMAJunkie.com, Brazilian-based MMA brand Pretorian threatened to pull their sponsorship of Okami if Sonnen appeared in his corner.

Sonnen has made himself no friends in Brazil with a constant barrage of disparaging remarks towards the country and its most prominent UFC fighters, and MMAJunkie reported a quote from a source who stated, "There's a line of people that want to kick his ass."

The two fought each other back in 2009, and after Sonnen handed Okami just his second UFC loss, they became friends and began training with each other. Because of that relationship, Sonnen had planned to be there for support in his title fight, but ultimately Sonnen made the decision to not make the trip so as not to be a distraction to Okami.

"I only want to be there to help him," Sonnen said. "I don't need to see the show. I can watch the show on TV. I was going exclusively in support of Yushin, and frankly, it's been headed this way for a long time. It's been headed the direction of, 'Hey, this is becoming a distraction.'

"This fight isn't about me. I'm not involved. I'm here to lend you support. But I don't want things thrown at what will unintentionally be him while he's in the ring or we're going to the ring. This is serious business. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and it's not my place to disturb it or shift any type of attention to me. This is his moment, his night, his time to be the world champ."

Penick's Analysis: I'm sure Sonnen taking a step back and taking the attention off himself will come as a surprise to some, but he's making the right move and in this context he's not trying to be the caricature he often comes off as in interviews and in public. He's created a definite stir with Brazilian fans and fighters, and being in the arena for Okami won't be a good idea in what will already be a hostile, entirely pro-Silva crowd.
