Katy Perry Closing In On Michael Jackson's #1 Singles Record

If 'Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)' tops Hot 100, Perry's Teenage Dream will tie MJ's mark of five #1s from a single album.

Katy Perry's unstoppable Teenage Dream album continues to churn out hits ... and now, it might just make history too.

If Dream's fifth single, the just-released "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)", continues its climb to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 (it currently sits at #4, jumping 27 spots from last week), Perry will not only become the first female artist to ever have five #1 songs off one album, she'll be the first artist of any gender to accomplish the feat since Michael Jackson had five chart-topping singles off his Bad album in 1987 and 1988.

Perry's previous #1s from the Dream album are, of course, "California Gurls," "Teenage Dream," "Firework" and "E.T." Jackson's five #1s from the Bad album are "I Just Can't Stop Loving You," "Bad," "The Way You Make Me Feel," "Man in the Mirror" and "Dirty Diana."

Perry has already shattered the Hot 100 record for most consecutive weeks with a single inside the Top 10 (48, a number previously held by Swedish popmeisters Ace of Base), then kept that momentum going by spending an entire year in the chart's upper echelon. More incredibly, that streak is still active, as two of Perry's singles — "T.G.I.F." and "E.T." — sit at numbers 4 and 5, respectively.

What's more, "T.G.I.F" currently sits atop the Billboard Digital Songs chart, and may soon be her sixth single to pass the 4 million mark in digital sales, joining "E.T.," "California Gurls," "Firework," and from her One of the Boys album, "Hot N Cold" and "I Kissed a Girl." No other artist has even had four songs pass the 4 million download mark ... Perry's closest competitors in that regard are Lady Gaga and Rihanna, both of whom have had three 4 million-sellers.

What do you think of Katy Perry's chart streak? Sound off in the comments!

The always bizarre Palhares brutalizes Miller at UFC 134

Rousimar Palhares is a tremendous fighter, but there always seems to be something goofy that arises during his fights.

Palhares dominated Dan Miller for 15 minutes, but nearly blew the match when he stopped fighting in the first round to prematurely celebrate what he thought was a victory via stoppage. Referee Herb Dean simply restarted the bout without docking Palhares any points and the Brazilian went on to post a unanimous decision victory, 30-25, 30-27, 29-27, at UFC 134 in Rio de Janeiro.

Palhares is now 5-2 in the UFC, but his fights have often been highlighted by an odd moment. One of the losses came against Nate Marquardt. Back at Ultimate Fight Night 22, Palhares was on the ground, stopped defending himself to tell the referee that Marquardt felt greasy and was the recipient of several finishing shots.

After UFC 111, he was suspended by the N.J. Athletic Control Board after he refused to acknowledge the referee during a submission stoppage against Tomasz Drwal. Before he entered the UFC, Palhares had several similar cases in Brazil where he held onto submissions for too long.

Tonight produced another interesting note on the Palhares' resume. With 44 seconds left in the first round, he crushed Miller with a head kick. The American fell to his back and covered up. Palhares pounded away with nine shots while Dean watched closely to see if Miller was finished. The ref never stopped the fight, but Palhares suddenly turned away, put his hands in the air and jumped on top of the cage to celebrate what he thought was a win. It confused Miller, who also thought the fight had been stopped and screamed out an expletive.

Dean grabbed Palhares off the cage and told him the fight was never stopped. Miller (13-6, 5-5 UFC) was fine. So much so that he quickly landed a left that locked up Palhares' body and the Brazilian fell to his back. Then Palhares recovered and eventually scored a big takedown with less than 10 seconds left in the round. As the horn sounded, Palhares landed a big right elbow and a left that appeared to come a little late.

Palhares sealed the victory in the second by gaining top control with 4:30 minutes left in the round. Miller never got back to his feet. Palhares stood over him and pounded away. On several occasions, Dean had to tell Miller that he would stop the fight if he didn't defend himself. Miller made it through, but the judges rewarded Palhares for the extremely dominant round.

In the third round, Palhares tired badly, but Miller was so beat up he couldn't take advantage of it.

The striking numbers told the story as Palhares outlanded Miller 104-56. According to Compustrike, 84 of the Palhares' shots were power strikes.

UFC 134 RESULTS: Anderson Silva blitzes Yushin Okami in second round for record 9th title defense

Anderson_Silva_UFC_still_180_41.jpg
Anderson Silva capped off a fantastic night of fights in Brazil with another example of why he is perhaps the best fighter the sport of MMA has ever seen.

Taking on Yushin Okami in a rematch of the last "loss" on his record - a disqualification from 2006 before either was in the UFC, Silva made things look easy after a feeling out first round, and finished the Japanese middleweight in the second.

The first round saw both fighters tentatively gauging the range of their opponent. After Okami walked Silva down and put the fight in the clinch, the two then engaged in an even back and forth there, with each landing knees and punches in the clinch.

Silva then turned the first round in his favor in the final seconds, landing a kick to the neck of Okami and delivering a knee to the body before the horn went off.

As the second began, Silva was ready to turn up the heat, and he toyed with Okami as he landed a series of punches early. With no fear for Okami's power, Silva dropped his hands to his side and allowed Okami to hit him twice. Then he dropped him with a jab.

After allowing Okami to stand back up, Silva again went with his hands to his side, practically begging Okami to take the free shot, but "Thunder" couldn't pull the trigger. Finally, after he attempted to hit Silva, he was tagged with another big punch, a right hook that dropped him to the canvas again.

This time, Silva engaged him on the ground, picking his spots and hurting Okami with every strike thrown. With punches to the head, as well as knees and elbows to the body, it was simply a matter of continuing the assault until referee Herb Dean was forced to step in.

The win was Silva's 14th straight in the UFC's Octagon, and his 15th straight since the DQ loss to Okami in 2006. It also marked an extension of a record he already owns, as he defended his UFC Middlweight Championship for the ninth time.

It was another incredible performance from one of the most incredible fighters the sport has seen. There are a number of potential opponents for Silva when he makes what will be his 10th title defense, but as for challenges? The Champ said after the fight that he's got one:

"My clone."
