Edwards gets back into the cage for the first time since suffering one of the most brutal losses of his MMA career in June. Taking on Sam Stout at UFC 131 in Vancouver last month, Edwards was knocked out cold by a vicious counter left, leaving him unconscious for several scary moments. The loss snapped a three fight winning streak that included two fights in the Octagon since making his return.
Oliveira returned to the organization in May after four fights away from the UFC, but while he picked up wins in all of those fights, he failed to do so in the Octagon. Oliveira's overall UFC record was sent to just 1-3, as he was submitted by Gleison Tibau at UFC 130.
UFC on Versus 6 takes place from the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. on October 1, headlined by a Bantamweight Championship fight between Dominick Cruz and Demetrious Johnson.
Penick's Analysis: Edwards will have more leeway should he lost a second straight fight here, but Oliveira will more than likely be on his way out if he loses this fight. A 1-4 mark in the Octagon is not likely to keep you on the roster. As for the fight itself, it should make for a solid preliminary card fight for a free event, and with Edwards involved it should definitely be entertaining.
