The organization announced the bout on Twitter, and MMAJunkie.com reported that the fight will be on a Challengers card at the Pearl at the Palms Casino in Las Vegas, though the date for the event has not yet been determined.
Budd has fought all three of her professional fights under the Strikeforce banner. After debuting with a TKO win over Shana Olsen, Budd was then stopped in 14 seconds by Amanda Nunes, but she bounced back in her last fight with a decision win over Germaine de Randamie.
Rousey made her Strikeforce debut earlier this month, defeating Sarah D'Alelio with an armbar in the first round. However, controversy surrounded the win, as D'Alelio claimed she did not verbally tap, though referee Steve Mazzagatti stopped the bout due to that. Rousey has fought six times in the amateur and professional ranks, and all six of those fights have ended by armbar in under a minute.
Penick's Analysis: This should be a really fun women's fight for a challengers card. It will be Budd's Muay Thai against Rousey's dangerous submission game, and the stylistic matchup should provide a very good challenge for each. Regardless of which fighter's style wins out, someone's likely going to get finished in that fight, and it makes for an intriguing and exciting fight.
